Behind the Scenes of Your Business

    October 20, 2020

How can your internal structure can affect your productivity and your profits?

What does the backend business management entail for small business owners?

By now you probably have established your communication suite and you have probably been realizing your services and maybe even your marketing strategy. It may even feel a little overwhelming to keep everything sorted out in your head, and in your business.

Enter: project management strategy and internal communication.

There are several different solutions based project management strategy systems that you can use to straighten out your vision and processes.

As an entrepreneur, you are likely juggling a lot of different tasks, and some of them are things you are already great at, and some might be brand new information full of opportunities for advancement and learning, and most of all… stress. This is how the internal pillar of your business becomes an absolute mess in a matter of weeks.

I heard this quote the other day, and it reminded me about what it’s like to be an entrepreneur so perfectly:

““An entrepreneur tends to bite off a little more than he can chew hoping he will quickly learn how to chew it.”

    –Roy Ash

Thus comes my first recommendation: make an idea bank in whatever system you choose to use. Shiny object syndrome is real, and exciting, and incredibly unproductive. I am an Enneagram 7, so I feeeeeel the FOMO that comes from the influx of ideas you might have in the process, nothing has been able to quell that Fomo the way that an idea bank has. Each of the following systems have ways to implement the strategy of an idea bank. It really helps with focus when you can dump it out in real time and come back to it later when you can give you ideas the attention that will make your business great.

The best way to adapt is to establish your internal, non-client facing, project management system. Something for only you to see and worry about.

Here is some unsolicited advice regarding how to choose your project management system.

    • If you are a person who is visual, I recommend Trello to manage your projects.
    • If you like to use a system with lots of customization options, ClickUp is your thing, Click up actually has it all, and it’s my favorite way to manage my business. It just can be overwhelming when you are first starting to use a system like this. Try starting with Trello, and ClickUp will move all of your items over for you if you need something more robust (AHEM, this happened to me, and I am fairly new to ClickUp but I really love it :))
    • Asana is super customizable and works great integrating with the Microsoft Communication Suite ie: Outlook, OneDrive, etc.
    • If you are working in multiple companies, try to use a different project management system for both. Meaning, if you work a full-time job and use Asana maybe try one of the other options for your side-gig, personal brand, or blog. It will keep things separate and help you with preventing burnout and overwhelm.

Guess what!? Every single one of these options is FREEEEEEE. So try them all! Dont get too attached, then make a choice and stick with it.

What other PMS systems are there that you guys are using? I would love to know!
